Blue Velvet: gold dust

gold dust

Vintage [Middle English, from Anglo-Norman, alteration (influenced by viniter, vintner) of Old French vendange, from Latin vndmia : vnum, grapes + dmere, to take off (d, de- + emere, to obtain; see em- in Indo-European roots).]

Vintage gold sequined-slash-itchy shirt that I discovered upon raiding my grandmother's closet. Worn with those Levi's that pop up on the blog almost on every other post. If you've gotten sick of me wearing them I won't blame you.

You could say I'm obsessed with vintage.. I don't support it because it's in fashion to do so, I think the reasons for growing so fond of it derive from way deeper. I feel as if I need to refrain from all the massive-production brands that produce all the latest trends in numerous different designs with tiny alternations each. This first hit me when I went looking for a military jacket, and noticed that Zara had created almost 10 different army pieces to choose from. So far, so good, but after taking a look on the streets, I noticed that every girl who considered herself to be fashion-forward, sported one. What's the point of wearing something that you love, if that means that you'll look exactly like everyone else? It's not about all girls wearing army jackets, it's about wearing the exact same one, from the exact same store.
Fashion is about being unique, daring and experimenting on a daily basis, showing who you truly are. So how can that translate into wearing the same piece of clothing with so many other people in the world?
Don't get me wrong, I will always love the high street brands for bringing me a step closer to every season's biggest trends that are way beyond my reach, and for introducing me to all those fashion trends in the first place. And keep in mind that this endless monologue comes from a girl whose closet mainly includes Zara and H&M.

I was wearing:
Vintage shirt worn as jacket, vintage Levi's, Accessorize hat, Zara harness boots
