Blue Velvet: the leather skirt edit, aka an ode to slimane

the leather skirt edit, aka an ode to slimane

the leather skirt edit

The black leather miniskirt issue; a favorite wardrobe staple year after year after year. It's very easy to style, it looks equally ravishing with heels as it does with Converse, and it gives off a vision of "luxury, quality, simplicity and integrity". From Alexander Wang to Theyskens' Theory to the legend himself Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent, every designer added the luxurious fabric in their FW 2014 collections, playing with shapes and lengths, giving the chance to the big high-street brands to create multiple alternatives to choose from.

Versatile as it is, this is one piece that one can invest in, just like a crisp white shirt or a black blazer. Hedi Slimane managed to bring it back from the previous decade's leather mania and create a full background to support it; from plaid shirts to fishnet stockings to mesh, everything matches the newly found grungyness. Only thing missing from this outfit is a choker like this (remember it  90's kids??), which I hope doesn't make a comeback anytime soon.

I have already posted an outfit post with the trend here, wearing a basic skirt from Zara, playing it very nonchalant and as if I couldn't-care-less to wear that sh*t again, when in reality I haven't actually managed to keep the skirt off from me. Its ability to match every rock band tshirt and sweater that I own makes it one of the most coveted pieces in my wardrobe.
