Layering necklaces is my latest extracurricular activity, what I do in my free time. Yes, you may call me insane, but I cannot resist playing around with different necklace lengths, stack'em up real nice, take a selfie (it's all about that, isn't it?), take them off and then do this all over again. And just like layering clothes, it too can be a bit tricky until you master the right proportions.
It's obvious that I'm joking above (or am I?), however it is indeed true that once you find the best necklace pieces to layer, that new chic combination will add an intriguing and decidedly stylish element to any outfit - especially when you're opting for the basics of jeans and a t-shirt. The key to the perfect layering is playing with different types of chains and mixing varying lengths for that cool, curated look.
1. The choker
Opt either for something minimal and sleek, like a bar choker, or for a more bohemian choice, like a velvet choker or those tattoo chokers that we had all fallen for in the 90's and are so back into fashion right now.
2. The bar necklace
The next piece should be a slightly bit longer, delicate chains and all, that would perfectly contradict the choker's thicker silhouette.
3. The pendant
Now you can opt for something as long as you like, most likely one with a pendant on the end. My personal favorites here are rosaries, which I usually buy them in dozens from Asos or Ebay. However, I prefer the delicate chained pendants to those that have beads on them for layering, as I want to ensure a cohesive feeling.
